Reflecting on her admiration for classic cinema, Aditi Rao Hydari once expressed a keen interest in playing Meena Kumari’s iconic role in a potential remake of the 1962 film Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam‘. The actress, known for her roles in films like ‘Wazir’, shared this aspiration during an interview while she was a showstopper at the Lakme Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, walking for debutant designer Jayanti Reddy.
Aditi, who graced the ramp in a stunning beige lehenga from Jayanti’s collection, spoke about her deep appreciation for the timeless characters portrayed by yesteryear actresses. She revealed that Meena Kumari’s role in ‘Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam’ was particularly close to her heart and that she would eagerly accept the opportunity to star in a remake of the film. She also mentioned her admiration for other legendary actresses from that era, such as Waheeda Rehman, Nutan, and Madhubala.
‘Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam’, directed by Abrar Alvi and featuring Meena Kumari, Guru Dutt, and Rehman, was based on Bimal Mitra’s novel of the same name.
