Pune Zika Virus: The virus is spreading quickly around Pune, infecting six people two of whom are pregnant with it.

Introduction

There have been six Zika virus cases documented in Pune. The illness is transmitted by the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, which is also responsible for the transmission of dengue and chikungunya.

Pune Zika Virus infections: In Pune, Maharashtra, six Zika virus infections have been reported. Two pregnant women were among the patients, according to a Monday statement from health officials.  Zika virus infection was discovered in a pregnant 28-year-old lady from the Erandwane region. His report was positive as of Friday. On Monday, however, a second expectant mother received the same diagnosis of illness.

According to an official, both women were doing well and exhibiting no symptoms. The Zika virus can cause microcephaly in expectant mothers, a disease in which aberrant brain development results in a noticeably smaller head.  When a 46-year-old doctor tested positive, it was announced that Erandwane had the first case of Zika virus infection.

Following this, his daughter’s sample, who is 15 years old, also tested positive.  In Mundhwa, a 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman have also contracted the Zika virus, according to the official. An infected Aedes mosquito, which is also known to transmit dengue and chikungunya, is the vector that transmits the Zika virus. In 1947, the virus was originally discovered in Uganda. The Pune Municipal Corporation’s health department is keeping an eye on things. As a precaution, he said, fogging and fumigation techniques are being used to stop mosquito reproduction.

How is the virus known to spread?

Aedes aegypti and Albopictus mosquitoes carrying the Zika virus bite people. Via sexual contact, blood infection, or childbirth, an infected mother’s placenta can quickly transmit the virus to her unborn child. Thus, throughout the first trimester of pregnancy, women should exercise caution when undergoing ultrasound scanning.

 Eighty percent of Zika virus infections typically show no symptoms at all, although fever, rash, headache, joint and muscle pain, or conjunctivitis should not be disregarded. A week following an infected mosquito bite, these symptoms start to show up and may last for another week or so.
