NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) is processing the Karnataka government‘s request which sought cancellation of the diplomatic passport of suspended Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, according to news agency PTI quoting sources.
Revanna, who is accused of sexually harassing several women, is grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. He has been embroiled in controversy following accusations from several women.
Official sources disclosed that the MEA has received a letter from Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah urging the revecation of Revanna’s diplomatic passport. This development comes in the wake of Revanna’s departure from India, purportedly occurring just after the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections in his constituency of Hassan.
“The MEA has received a letter from the Karnataka government for cancellation of diplomatic passport in respect of MP Prajwal Revanna. This is being processed,” a source said.
Karnataka’s home minister G Parameshwara expressed concerns over the Centre’s delay in responding to the request for passport cancellation, citing an arrest warrant issued against Revanna by a Special Court for Elected Representatives upon an application filed by the SIT.
Earlier revelations by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal indicated that Revanna had utilized his diplomatic passport for travel to Germany without obtaining political clearance, an act deemed irregular.
“No political clearance was either sought from or issued by MEA in respect of the travel of the said MP to Germany,” Jaiswal had said.
