Aakash Chopra reckoned that RCB will go into their IPL 2024 match against RR as the firm favourites when they face in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Challengers have won 6 matches in a row and will be high on confidence, especially after their 27-run win over CSK at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The Royals, on the other hand, once looked favourites to finish on top of the table. However, they failed to win even 1 of their last 5 matches and slipped out of the top 2. Chopra said that RCB have momentum on their side, but said that they should be wary of the odd ‘bad day’ that could knock them out of the competition.

“The scales, without doubt, are tilted towards Bengaluru. They have the momentum. The only thing that can go against them is that they have won six consecutive games. A bad day can come anytime but they are a team on the rise with a lot of hunger. So I am going with RCB,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

‘Kohli is unstoppable’

Chopra said that Kohli’s aggression and run-scoring spree had helped RCB stay alive in the competition. The 35-year-old Kohli is currently the leading run-scorer of the IPL 2024, having racked up 708 runs from 14 games at an average of 64.36 and a strike-rate of 155.60 with 1 century and 5 fifties to his name.

“This team’s graph is going upwards. So which are the big, big pieces that have worked well? Virat Kohli’s passion, aggression and consistency. He has been absolutely stellar. He is unstoppable. He has decided that he has to do and show something different this season. Virat Kohli consistently doing well is absolutely mandatory in their turnaround,” Chopra added.

Although RR have struggled of late, they may have the physiological advantage, having beaten RCB by 6 wickets last month at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
