- Actress Chhaya Kadam, who starred in the film “All We Imagine As Light,” talked candidly recently about the spontaneous dance that happened on the 77th Cannes Film Festival red carpet. In an interview with PTI, Chhaya discussed her response to a lighthearted teasing about their spontaneous dance performance from someone in Mumbai. Along with Chhaya, Kani Kusruti, and Divya Prabha, the film’s director Payal Kapadia walked the red carpet in flair and won over many hearts.
- Chhaya pondered who came up with the dance idea and said, “I can’t say for sure, but it might have been me.” “You were dancing as if you were in your own courtyard,” a Mumbai native teased. Which I answered, ‘Why not?’ Winning an award and being included in the main competition after thirty years is a noteworthy achievement. Why follow the rules? We dance freely to show our happiness.”
- As per Chhaya, their dancing on the Cannes red carpet turned into a joyful moment whereby others joined in to express their happiness. “We were encouraged to continue dancing by the photographers even when we stopped for pictures. A heaving sensation of delight descended. It seemed to portend that the movie will do quite well in the festival.” She also claimed that when she arrived at the movie’s premiere, the Marathi song “Gulabi Saree” was playing.
- “All We Imagine As Light” created history by becoming the first film directed by an Indian in thirty years to take home the Grand Prix, Cannes’ second-highest prize after the Palme d’Or. Chhaya appears in the Payal Kapadia-directed movie with Divya Prabha and Kani Kusruti. After its premiere, the movie received overwhelmingly positive reviews from reviewers throughout the world, solidifying its position as a contender.
- The Malayalam-Hindi film explores the lives of various protagonists, one of which is Prabha, a Mumbai-born nurse whose world is turned upside down when her husband, who is now divorced, gives her a rice cooker. Her roommate Anu struggles too to find a private place for her love meetings in the busy city. In the meantime, Parvati, Prabha’s close friend, is being forced to leave her house because of real estate development (Chhaya).
